Eskom and energy and chemical business, Sasol, have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to "collaboratively explore and investigate potential long term liquified natural gas (LNG) requirements".
That is according to a joint statement by the two corporations, following the signing ceremony from the MoU on Friday.
"The collaboration aims to find out the possible volumes that South Africa necessitates to establish a feasible LNG import market, along with the enabling infrastructure, and can be facilitated by authorities-to-federal government relations wherever necessary."
"This initiative focuses on using gasoline for ability generation to supply vital base load electrical energy and position gas like a vital enabler of re-industrialisation, though also making sure ongoing supply to the industry by unlocking global LNG resources.
